My First Website
As I work on setting up this new website as a blog and portfolio to talk about software development and showcase various projects I’ve worked on, I’m reminded me of my old Wordpress blog and my first post from over a decade ago - it’s still online! (https://sonrisesoftware.wordpress.com)
Lots has changed since my first post on that blog way back in 2013. I was a homeschooled high school student at the time. I’ve since gone to college, and then went back to college again for a Master’s degree in Computer Science. Ubuntu Touch (an attempted competitor to Android and iOS) is long dead, as are all the projects I was working on at the time, though one of my apps did win first place in an Ubuntu Touch app development competition in 2014. I still have the tablet and t-shirt I won from that, I think. Back then, I was just building and publishing apps on my own, but just a few months after this post I would get my first job as a software engineer as a 16 year old still in high school, eventually getting promoted to senior and then staff software engineer roles, where I now lead projects and teams of developers. I was working on Bible-related software even back then - little did I know that one day I would get paid to work on Bible software, and not just that, I would get to work on the mobile apps for my favorite Lutheran study Bible.
Lots has changed in the past twelve years. But above all else, one thing has not changed - the confession of faith behind the name Sonrise Software. The resurrection of Christ is still the most important event in the history of the world, and it’s still the foundation of my life. To God alone be the glory in all I do.
